2. Single Pole Slalom
This obstacle consists of at least 5 wooden, plastic, or metal poles (approx. 2 meters high), set out in a straight line from 6 to 10 meters apart depending on level. The horse is ridden around the slalom poles performing a change of bend with each change of direction. When required the change of lead or flying changes should always be performed at the half-way point between the poles. The line taken by the rider should be in true half circles the diameter of which will equal the distance between the poles (see diagram below).
